First Steps

We understand that losing a loved one is a very difficult time and you may not know what to do.  These first steps will help guide you.  At M&F Funeral Services, you can call us anytime day or night and we’ll help to guide you through.

If the death occurs at home, a GP will have to be informed and a death certificate issued.   You can then make an appointment with the registrar.  We can give you contact details and advise you on what you will have to take with you.

Your loved one will be brought into the care of M&F Funeral Services and you will be asked to call into your local branch to make the funeral arrangements or we can visit you at home.  You do not have to wait until registering the death to do this.

In some instances i.e. Roman Catholics, it is advisable to contact your parish priest if you intend calling upon him to take the service.  We can advise you on this also.

If you are planning a burial, and ground has already been purchased from your local authority, it would help us if you can bring the Lair Certificate (Title Deeds) when you come to make arrangements.  If you need to purchase new ground, we can do this on your behalf.

If cremation is planned, we can advise you on the facilities available, helping you make an informed decision.

You may if you wish, at the time of making arrangements, bring in some suitable clothes for your loved one.  However, we are happy to provide a robe free of charge if that is your preference.

We will discuss all your requirements and options in order to give you the best possible service, reflecting the life of your loved one.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call us.  We are available 24 hours a day on 0131 653 6177.
